Call for patterns

I got a brilliant idea over lunch (ie. pumping & knitting) I am going to out together a pattern book of wool diaper covers. longies, shorties, wraps etc. since this is a fairly new idea, I'm not sure yet what I can bribe you designers with. any schwag ideas? I've got 9 pattern ideas so far. it'll also include the basics on wool as a diaper cover and a materials guide. to submit a pattern or pattern idea, drop me an email and we'll chat.

other than that.. I've been busy stocking the cart... my NEW improved purple inserts! a couple of pockets, 2 recycled wool wraps, and 1 pair longies. swim dipes and a swim sling (for me - not the cart!) some pics...




not shown are the microfiber swiffer covers. they work SOOO much better!!! than the $$$ pads! now if I could just figure out how to refill the cleaner bottle.....

I'm hoping the weather will let me dye some self striping wool this w/e....

Cowboy Colin

not only is he a CD cowboy, but he has 2 teeth!!!

AND he started giving "kisses" yesterday!! SOOOO sweet!!! I love my boys!

I am in the midst of making them matching easter outfits!! they love to match with daddy... but they've never matched wiht Colin.

Also in new news... I have my First self-published pattern!! it is called Twisted and is available through my store. I'm going to post a pic with link in my sidebar asap. It is a comprehensive pattern for shorties and longies (or capris!) with step-by-step photos. I'm very proud of it! I have the next one in my head and need to catch up on some orders and swim dipes so that I can start on it. yes.. I said swim dipes! I'm making some for Colin and I am making a swim-sling too! depending on how the dipes turn out, I may put them in my cart as well. we shall see!

I won't be able to post tomorrow as I will be preparing a feast fit for St. Patrick Himself!!! We should all wear our green with pride tomorrow! Irish or not. Catholic or not!!! Yes the Wearing of the Green was to let the world know you were an Irish Catholic. It was supposed to be a punishment- intended to suppress the Catholics. Instead, it was used as a rally to bring them together and defend their home and heritage. So matter your faith or nationality, wear your green proudly in remembrance of those who fought to preserve theirs!



thanks for the food suggestions ladies! I am eating a LOT of rice noodles! and finding other alternatives. I found great teething cookies for him that are wheat and dairy free (may even be vegan...) other than that we are going slow with the solids for him. mostly stuff he can pick up and explore - banana, avocado, sweet potato, mashed potatoes. we want to push the calories and not fill him up on solids just yet. I actually get the o'soy yogurt for Ryan. it comes in kid sized 6-packs. Colin will get that when he is older too. I don't' expect any of the kids to outgrow the DA. I haven't and neither have my mom or sister. Don't think my niece has either.... any other suggestions are appreciated!

I gotta give my 'props to the Vegans.. I just went to lunch with my office and ordering a meal that contained no: wheat, dairy, nuts, peanuts, or meat - NOT EASY!!! BUT If you find yourself in downtown New Haven and in need of a nice Irish Pub, I HIGHLY recommend the Playwright on Temple Street. They were accommodating to my "please no pine nuts or cheese and can I have a wedge of lemon instead of dressing" the chef forgot to add my Portables to my salad. Before I even had a chance to notice, the server delivered them to me. shortly after, the chef came out and apologized for forgetting them (with an Irish accent!). Excellent food and FAB service! prices were fairly decent too.

Colin had a tummy virus. He was vomiting for about a week straight.. poor kid :( he is back down to the 5 th %ile as of last Friday, but he'd already gotten his appetite back. so he should be back to playing catch-up by now...

I am in the midst of designing some shorties for C. and I am thinking of offering a free version here on the blog and a full version for sale on my hyena cart . still in the swatch/sketch phase right now. I think I'll make the full version in sizes NB through 3T. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome in the comments!

speaking of wool... I have some hand-dyed wools in my cart now.

Update on Colin

he is now over 13# and he broke the 10th %ile!!! (he was born at the 90th!) looks like he probably has about 4# plus normal growth to go, BUT this week he doubled his weight gain from 0.5 oz/day to 1oz per day! GO COLIN!!!

In a realted topic, his allergy testing finally came back! he is HIGHLY allergic to dairy, nuts and wheat. dairy is done, nuts are easy, but wheat is a toughie... we'll figure it out tho. there is a great heath food store near me and I am sure they can point me to some good substitutes.

Todd actually got the results when he called the dr b/c we have reason to suspect Andy may be diabetic. she gave him an order for b/w and hopefully we'll have some answers there soon.

Ryan is doing great!very healthy! he starts karate on Friday and he got a fantastic report card! he is ready for kindergarten NOW! Andy's was fantastic too!

GOLD!!!!!

we are SO proud of our little Karate Kid!!! There is already a noticable change in his confidence. so glad we signed him up! we'll let him continue through soccer season and the summer. he wants to be a black belt some day! Ryan really enjoyed watching the belt test, and now we're going to sign himup for the 3-5 yo karate program run at teh community center by the same guy. he can pick up in the same program Andy is in when he goes to kindergarten in the fall. he could use a lesson (or 20!) in respect....





And don't foget, My Little Creations will have its first stocking (assuming I did it right...) at noon est. tomorrow!!!!

My Little Contest

So ladies and gents, I am setting off on a new venture. I am opening up a storefront on Hyena Cart. It will cater to the Cloth Diapering Crowd mostly. I plan on carrying my custom diapers (recently redesigned!!), wipes, wetbags, inserts, wool wraps, longies and shorties, and I am developing a design for "mama Cloth". I am also carrying some nursing tops and baby clothes and I may carry some handpainted yarns from time to time. I will announce my stocking times and a sneak peak of upcomming products too. so I've been at the new job a whole week now. it is really amazing how quickly we develop a routine. I take the same route to and from work and I'm finding myself parking in the same space every day! that is kind of odd b/c the garage seems to have some sort of a black hole. the elevator was broken so i had to hike 8 flights of stairs. i was parked on the 3rd floor!the ramp to get out is like 5 miles long... what is it with new haven and spiral ramps anyway?????

so little Colin is getting less little!!!!! but he's broken out in hives in the process. only my kid would have an allergic reaction to hypoallergenic formula!!!!I'm taking him for b/w tomorrow and we may have to use neocate for future spplements, but hopefully we can cut them out all together soon. he is sucking stronger and latching better. it is amazing how dratic the change in his behavior. hes gone from constantly sucking his hands to yanking off his socks to play with his feet!

One of those boats belongs to my parents. I can't tell which one. they are absolutely devestated. I am havaing fire nightmares again. How do I explain this to Andy and Ryan? they are always asking when Papa is going to take them fishing.

Up, Down, and Around

UP: I don't normally blog about work. I've learned from other's mistakes. but I will say this. I will be starting a new position at a firm in New Haven on the 22nd. YAY!

DOWN: Colin has lost weight since his 3m check up he is back down to his 2m weight. I am working with the fine folks at Breastfeeding Resources to get his weight back up. he is pooping more and seems happier overall already. we go for a f/u tomorrow.

AROUND: In spite of his weight loss, C has grown over an inch since his 2m visit. AND he is rolling over! I wanted to post this last week - hoping to get a video of it, but I couldn't get kid and camera to coperate at the same time...sigh.. last Wed, he rolled back to belly - every time I put him on his back! then, on Thursday, I put him on the floor to show Andy & Ryan. he rolled on to his tummy, got mad and rolled back to his back.. and kept log rolling... I'll keep tying for a video...

Sound Tigers!

Check Ryan out! does he look like a Hockey pro or what? Hmmm.. I'm having Halloween ideas..... As you can probably tell, the boys attended their first hockey game tonight - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers! (BTW-I have it on good authority both the arena and the parkign garage are on a sound foundation! pipe piles in case you were wondering ;) )! their friend Schuyler got to play between periods with his team. It was really cute to see all of the little kids on the ice! Kinda reminded me of watching D-league! it was only my second game since RPI and it brought back a lot of fond memories! the smells- the sounds- even the music! Big difference was I was actually sober and I was also breastfeeding... none of the obnoxoious chants ("what's the Color of Shit? BROWN!" or "KFC-KFC-KFC")- nothing red being tossed onto the ice.. but hey.. not every game can be freakout... the coolest part was watching the boys! Andy and Ryan were FAR more interested in the snacks, tho Ryan did get a puck after the game! Daddy took him down by the ice so he could see better and one of the staff gave him a puck! Colin was intently watching the entire first period. He was playing with and chewing on "Baby Po" through the second and nursing through the third. And now he is screaming for his jammies and a tuck-in.

The best gift of all...

I almost forgot to post about the best gift our family recived this Christmas... HOPE! Hope for my Dad's health. see, his Gout has gotten bad.. really bad. I think he had it so long and so bad that he'd given up. He can hardly use his hands and his flare ups just move around the body without a break. We have been buggin him to see a rheumatologist (sp?) but he has been putting it off- probably b/c he gave up. BUT on Christmas eve, se stopped in to visit some friends visiting from out of town. One of which is a Rheumatologist (again ? with the spelling). she offered to take a look at my Dad while she was in town. as it turns out.. things aren't as bad as he thought! surgury can restore MOST of the use of his hands, tho he has had it so long that he will still have some permanent damage. She also wrote down new dosing instructions for the meds he is on and a new med comming out soon will give him even better relief! so Todd gave him the number of his hand surgeon and now he is getting a referral to the rheumatologist. THANKS DOC!!!! I will refrain from naming names out of respect for her. she is a professional. Just for the record. I have a few Dr friends and I would n't think of asking any of them for free medical advice.. but she offered adn there was NO way we could say no since Dad was willing to go.

oh- I also finished Colins stocking.. finally!
